Please vist: www.etsy.com/shop/laurawilsongallery to see my jewelry and sculpture or to purchase one of my original paintings or drawings on canvas, paper or slate:
For the most part I am self taught except for a class at Stewart's international in Tequesta, Florida for a diamond setting class and a few classes at the Emily Griffith School of Design in Denver Colorado. I also took a class at Colorado Mountain College at Minturn for enameling.
Most of my techniques are ones that I have created by experimentation.
I have created unique jewelry in various materials including gold, since 1974. I have received numerous awards for my painting and jewelry. I also work in pen and ink, colored pencil, acrylic paint on canvas, and slate..
I also work in polymer clay and make 8 to 12 inch high sculptures of flowers, rocks and insects. These sculptures are all one of a kind and covered with glass domes to protect the clay which is fragile.
I find my inspiration from the beauty of nature and paints birds, flowers and botany. And when I paint or draw it is with a jeweler's eye for precision.
I make everything myself with the absolute best quality of supplies and materials available. Every item is designed for comfort and beauty with attention to detail.
Creating art is a part of my very being. I've always been fascinated with color; I am intoxicated by sunsets, charmed by birds and delighted by flowers.
Everything I see around me is part of a potential creation somewhere in the future.
I had a 30 year long career traveling to art shows across the United States. Some of the more prestigious shows included the Pink Palace Show in Memphis, the Contemporary Crafts Market in San Francisco, and the famous Amish Acres show in Nappanee, Indiana where I received a blue ribbon for my work.
I invented the magnetic "Right Here Eyeglass Holder" along with special tools for working with magnets. I have developed my own unique process to hand manipulate molten silver at 1640 degrees Fahrenheit to form unique flowers and leaf shapes. I invented another process to create hypoallergenic earrings, stunning necklaces and my famous butterfly brooches from fabric. I also produce four different sizes of ear wraps; non-piercing ear wear to fit children or adults. One of the three original magnetic earring designers in 1988, I now offer 24 different earring magnet combinations to comfortably fit anyone who can't wear pierced earrings.
I have traveled to Mexico, India, and most of the 50 states in the U.S. I became one of the first female apprentice rough carpenters in California in 1974 and I was a contract firefighter with the Black Canyon Crew based in Colorado where I worked with Rita Murphy, one of the very first women firefighters in Colorado.
I retired from selling my work at fine art shows in 2008 and currently reside in Greenport, New York.
